Joint Statement by the Board of Rabbis and the Jewish Alliance of Greater Rhode Island on Hate Group Incident in Providence

2/22/2022

Last night, February 21, 2022, there was an alarming incident in Providence, Rhode Island, where a group that appears to be from the Nationalist Social Club (NSC) demonstrated outside a reading at the Red Ink community library on Camp Street. Incidents like this are happening more frequently in Rhode Island and our region. This is abhorrent.

The NSC, or 131 Crew (131 is alphanumeric code for ACA, Anti Communist Action) is a neo-Nazi, white supremacist group with small, autonomous regional chapters around the country. They see themselves as soldiers at war with a hostile, Jewish-controlled system that is deliberately plotting the extinction of the white race.

The Jewish community is not unique in its concerns about the rising presence of such groups and in its commitment to collaboration on policy, training, education, outreach and allyship to address them. Our shared humanity relies on a society that does not hate or discriminate. We must respond collectively with conviction, exposing hatred to the light.

We call on everyone to join us in condemning the actions of this group and to join us in saying that hate has no place in Rhode Island.
