Rabbi Gavi Ruit

Picture
Rabbi Gavi S. Ruit was ordained by Hebrew Union College-Los Angeles and did post-ordination graduate work in Medieval & Modern Jewish Theology at HUC-Cincinnati. Prior to entering the rabbinate, she worked as a developmental specialist with troubled children and teens. Much of Rabbi Ruit’s writing and teaching focuses on Jewish ethics – including sexual ethics. Her recent book, The Story of Dinah: Rape and Rape Myth in Jewish Tradition, has been praised in both rabbinic and academic circles.

Rabbi Ruit’s approach to the rabbinate is both scholarly and deeply spiritual. Her previous career in psychology and her post-ordination work in theology add nuance and texture to her teaching. When living in Los Angeles, she taught Jewish Studies courses at the University of Southern California and Occidental College, as well as adult education classes at a number of local synagogues. Currently, she teaches Mussar, Lurianic Kabbalah, and a variety of other adult ed classes in southern New England.
