Rabbi Joe Murray
Rabbi Joe Murray, a member of the Central Conference of American Rabbis, was born and raised in rural Pennsylvania. After service in the military, Joe received a B.A. in political science from East Stroudsburg University in 1979, and a J.D. from Villanova University School of Law in 1982. Joe received a Masters in Hebrew Letters from the New York City campus of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in 2009. While at HUC-JIR, Joe served as a student rabbi for congregations in central Pennsylvania and Long Island, New York. After ordination, Joe completed a chaplaincy residency at a Level One Trauma Center. Most of Joe’s legal career was as a bankruptcy practitioner representing debtors, and more recently as a foreclosure defense attorney. He has also served as both an interfaith prison chaplain and hospital chaplain. Before moving to Rhode Island, Joe volunteered with The Grace Project, helping incarcerated and at-risk youth in Onondaga County, New York. He is married to the Rev. Johanna Marcure, the Rector of Trinity Episcopal Church in North Scituate, Rhode Island. Joe currently serves as a hospice chaplain, a prison chaplain, and a hospital chaplain.
