Rabbi Raphael Kanter
Rabbi Raphael Kanter has been the spiritual leader of Tifereth Israel Congregation since 1997. A native of Sharon, Massachusetts, he attended the Solomon Schechter Day School and Maimonides Day School. He earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Pennsylvania. He is a 1992 graduate of the Rabbinical School of the Jewish Theological Seminary of America and he also holds a Master of Arts from the Jewish Theological Seminary and a Master of Education degree in psychological counseling from Columbia University. Rabbi Kanter became a rabbi because, "I love Judaism. I have always had an intense interest in Jewish tradition and the life of the mitzvot. I decided that I wanted to teach the Jewish way of life which commits a Jew to living Torah and being a symbol of God in the world." In 2015, Rabbi Kanter was the recipient of the Sydney Adams Award for Clergy from the New Bedford Interchurch Council. Rabbi Kanter and his wife, Cindy Benson, have three children, Rebecca, Eli and Micah.
